Console basics
Switch between light and dark mode, find help and your version, keep an eye on your license, and understand the banners you may see.
A few small things that make everyday work in MCM smoother: the appearance of the console, where to find help, which version you are running, and what the notices at the top of the page mean.
Light and dark mode
Click the sun or moon icon in the header, next to the notification bell. The console switches between Light and Dark immediately. The sign-in page has the same toggle. Your choice is remembered in your browser, so it stays the same next time you open MCM on that device.
Administrators can also give the console your own MCM Name and MCM Logo under Settings → General → MCM Branding, with Reset to defaults to go back to the standard look.
Help menu and version
At the bottom of the sidebar:
- Help opens a small menu with Documentation, which opens the MCM documentation, and Get support, which opens the support portal.
- Version shows the release you are running, such as v followed by the version number. Quote it when you contact support.
Your license
Your MCM subscription is checked regularly in the background, so you hear about an approaching expiry well before anything is affected.
Expiry reminder
In the last 7 days before your subscription ends, a scrolling notice appears at the top of every page:
Your MCM subscription expires in N days (date). Renew now to avoid service interruption. View Plan Details
Click the × at the right to hide it for the rest of your session. It can return in a new browser session until the subscription is renewed.
Plan details
View Plan Details opens a page that shows your subscription as last reported by MCM Nexus:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Status | Pending, Activated, Expired, Deactivated, Unreachable or Credential invalid |
| Plan | For example MSP Self-hosted, MSP Demo or Enterprise Demo |
| Start date and End date | The validity period of your subscription |
| Days remaining | How long is left, or "Expired" |
Click Extend Plan to open the Nexus portal and request an extension.
Platform administrators can also see the license, check it again and update the Subscription Key under Settings → MCM App.
If the subscription is not active
If the subscription is expired, deactivated, not yet started, or MCM cannot reach MCM Nexus to verify it, access is paused and a full-page notice ("Subscription Expired" or "MCM Nexus Unreachable") shows the details. Once the plan is renewed or connectivity returns, click Check Again and you are taken straight back in. An unreachable message is usually temporary. See also First-run activation.
Updates
Platform administrators manage updates under Settings → MCM App: see the available upgrade, choose Apply Patch, Upgrade to Minor or Upgrade to Major, then Install Now once it is downloaded (which restarts the services), and switch Auto-Download on or off. While an upgrade is being prepared, the page shows a countdown, and everyone sees a banner about it.
Banners and notices
Notices appear in a bar across the top of the console:
| Banner | When you see it | Can you dismiss it? |
|---|---|---|
| Platform upgrade | An upgrade is in progress or has failed | Yes |
| Maintenance (for example a domain or TLS change) | A maintenance window is running | Yes |
| Announcement, information | An administrator posted general news | Yes, which marks it read |
| Announcement, maintenance or critical | Something that needs your attention | No, it stays until the announcement ends |
Announcements also appear in Notifications, and the bell badge counts unread announcements alongside unread notifications. See Console tour.
